Sci-Fi Writing Competition

Sci-Fi: A Writing Competition

Write something out of this world and win amazing science fiction books of your own

When you hear the word “sci-fi”, what do you think of? Do you think of outer space? Far off worlds? Perhaps a heated argument between a Trekkie and a Star Wars fan comes to mind. We often wonder why Science Fiction is so appealing to us as readers and writers, but it really depends on the story.

Have you ever wanted to write your own sci-fi adventure? Well maybe this competition will spark some ideas! Perhaps you will you stick with the classics of time travel and extraterrestrial life, or bend the rules even further and imagine something else entirely? The possibilities stretch as far as our universe - which to our knowledge is endless ;)

This genre is unlike any other and we're hoping with this competition to inspire stories and fanfics alike that introduce us to new worlds, alternate realities, and futures where science and technology have changed life as we know it.

So pick up your pen and start writing...and may the force be with you.

How to Participate

To participate in this competition, write a sci-fi story. Your entry could delve within the genre itself or be a fanfiction involving sci-fi themes.

Remember that science fiction is defined as, "a form of fiction that draws imaginatively on scientific knowledge and speculation in its plot, setting, theme..." ( and boy does that leave it open to interpretation. As long as your entry expands on this understanding of sci-fi, it can be included in this writing competition.

But, let's say writing is not your thing. That's alright, because we also love imaginative covers or similarily-themed fanart so if you're more interested in designing a cover or fanart for your entry then you may also do that. Should we not have any cover or fanart entries, we will select a cover from one of the stories entered in this competition.

Winning entries will be shared on Movellas' social media (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.)

Best Story will receive a hardcover copy of Borne: A Novel by Jeff VanderMeer, or a $20 Amazon gift card.

Runner Up will receive a copy of Our Only Chance: An A.I. Chronicle written by Ray Else, or a $15 Amazon gift card!

Best Cover/Fanart will receive a copy of The Jane Austen Project by Kathleen Flynn, or a $15 gift card.
