Extraordinary (Warning: Crazy crap included in life)

Sonny Hilfiger's been alone all her life, distancing herself from everyone around her in the fear that someone would find out what she really is--a freak. So when a mysterious man with an eye patch offers her the job of a lifetime--one where she could be herself--she's sold.

Ever Odea has been plagued by the mystery surrounding her parents death for as long as she could remember. Strange dreams fill her mind, resulting in consecutive sleepless nights. Not to mention her unnatural talent. Then she meets what seems like the boy of her dreams and things start to look up.

Both these girls are very different, yet one similarity ties their paths together. Interesting things are bound to happen when the lives of individuals like these collide.

1. A Chance, A New Life

Sonny's P.O.V.

I stood by the edge of the lake, carefully bending the water to do my will. The water twisted and turned in the moonlight, creating whatever shapes I could think of. A hundred thoughts ran through my mind, the water churning faster and faster as I became more and more agitated.

In a few months, I'll turn 18. Which means I'll be kicked out of my foster home by then. I run my hand through my hair, thinking about my future. That is, my future if I even manage to survive on my own for more than 2 months. Where will I stay? How will I get a job? Having been an orphan my whole life, I've never been to school. I can't exactly go up to the interviewer and say: Hey, I can control water, fire, wind and earth! I'm the perfect candidate to work for you! Oh and by the way, I've never been to school! Maybe I could hire myself out as a cleaner...or a babysitter...no, that's ridiculous, kids absolutely hate me...

I'm jolted out of my thoughts by the sound of a twig snapping behind me. I whirl around quickly, the surface of the lake returning to normal as I do. My eyes scan the trees, looking for someone that could rat me out...the last thing I need right now is to be locked up in a padded room wearing a strait-jacket. I finally catch sight of two dark figures standing a few feet away from me but its too dark for me to see anything. I light my left hand up with a ball of fire and I'm able to see the two strangers.

The man nearest to me is dark-skinned and looks like he's in his late 30's. He's bald and has a black eye patch over his left eye. His other eye watches me like a hawk. My attention shifts to the other person. I'm surprised to see an attractive guy who couldn't be more than a couple of years older than me. He's well-built and has blonde hair and the brightest pair of navy blue eyes I have ever seen. And he's staring at me like I'm a freak. Hmph. Can't blame him though. He just saw me make the lake churn like the world's biggest outdoor toilet. I avert my eyes from him and clear my throat. "Gentlemen," I say pleasantly. "To what do I owe the pleasure of your presence this fine evening?" "Miss Hilfiger?" The guy with the eye patch asked me in a gruff voice. I stiffened. Nobody knew my real last name but me. And apparently, the weird dude with the pirate costume. "Who wants to know?" I ask coldly. He regards me coolly for a moment before speaking. "Miss Hilfiger, my name is Nick Fury, director of the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate-" "Wow, that's a mouthful."  I say, cutting him off. "You ever heard of an acronym?"  "I like this one." The blonde dude jerks his thumb at me and grins. I flash a brilliant smile at him and he quickly looks away. Well that sucks. "As I was saying," Nick Fury continues like nothing happened. "I am the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and I am interested in recruiting you as the newest addition to an elite team of people with supernatural powers like yours." He pauses for a second before going on. "Miss Hilfiger, how would you like to join The Avengers?"

I stare at him open-mouthed. "The whadda-say what?" Fury sighs and says:"That's what we call the team, The Avengers."

"And they're all people like me?" I ask incredulously.

"What do all these people do?" I ask him curiously.

"They help S.H.I.E.L.D. protect mankind from any force that threathens it." He tells me.

"I can do that?" I ask him in wonder.

He smiles. "Yes, Miss Hillfiger. You can do that."

I bite my lip as I think it over. The chance to do something with my life...to be with people who know who I really am...I would be helping people and not endangering them... I exhaled as I made up my mind.

I look up at Director Fury and ask: "When do I start?"
