This starts in fifth year, but it might move on.

1. Realizing it's "Something Else."

Rose's P.O.V.

I walk down the hallway with Albus and Scorpius, heading to dinner on the last day of school before Christmas Break. We don't see as much of each other as I would like, since I'm in Gryffindor and they're both in Slytherin. It's kind of lucky that, even if we're in different Houses, we're in Gryffindor and Slytherin because most of Gryffindor classes are with the Slytherins.

Once we make it to the Great Hall, they follow me to the Gryffindor table. This is usually how it works; they're mostly shunned by their House because their other friends are in Gryffindor, and Albus is a Potter who's in Slytherin, so...

Once we've sat down, I turn to some of my other, and female, friends, and we start chatting about Quidditch. I'm Seeker for Gryffindor, and two of my friends are Chasers. This makes it kind of awkward when we play Slytherin, since Albus is their Seeker, and Scorpius is a Chaser, but whatever. It's just a game, so we don't let winning and losing bother us very much. Albus and Scorpius don't even go to the parties when Slytherin wins; they come hang out with me in Gryffindor Tower. Most of my house has gotten so used to their presence, that they're considered honorary Gryffindors, and they even get to know our password. Not that any of the teachers know this; they don't even know that Slytherins hang out in the Gryffindor common room.

Just as I finish eating, Albus taps on my arm.

"What?" I ask.

"Scorpius would like me to inform you that there's a dance tonight, in this hall. For Christmas." Albus says.

"Yeah, I know. At least a dozen boys have asked me." I say, confused as to why Scorpius wants me to know this.

The two boys put their heads together, talking, before Albus turns back to me.

"He would like to know if you've accepted any of these invitations."

"No, I haven't." I say, starting to get an idea of where this conversation is going.

Once again, the boys talk before Albus turns to me again.

"Scorpius would like to talk to you."

"Okay. Why doesn't he talk to me then?" I ask.

Albus shrugs and switches places with Scorpius, who looks extremely nervous.

"Rose, will you go to the Christmas Dance with me?" he asks, talking very fast.

"Um, as friends, or...?" I trail off.

"Well, um, er, I was thinking, um, maybe a little, you know, more than friends?" he says, looking terrified at the words coming out of his mouth.

"Scorpius, are you asking me out?" I ask.

"Um, yes?" Scorpius says, more as a question than a statement.

I think for a moment. I think about how excited I get to go see Albus and Scorpius, and how I look forward to helping Scorpius with homework in the library, when their's no Albus around. I think about how my stomach gets butterflies every time he touches my arm, or my hand, or my shoulder. I think about how I enjoy seeing both boys, but I get more excited about seeing Scorpius more than seeing Albus. After these thoughts, I realize that my feeling for Scorpius haven't exactly been, well, just as friends. Coming to this realization, I look Scorpius in the eyes.

"Yes, I would love to go out with you." I say. My other friends "awwwww" at us, but I ignore them. Standing up, I take Scorpius's hand, and put my arm around Albus's shoulder.

"Come on. Since now I have a date to this dance, I've got to go get ready."

Scorpius's P.O.V.

After Albus and I leave Rose in the Entrance Hall, we wait until she's out of sight before sprinting into an empty classroom.

"I asked out Rose Granger-Weasley!" I burst out, hardly able to contain my excitement.

"And she said yes!" Albus says, just as excited. "You're going on a date with my cousin tonight! Oh..." he pauses. "You're going on a date with my cousin tonight."

"Something wrong?" I ask.

"No..." Albus says. "It's just that it might get a little awkward."

"Do you have a date?" I ask.

"Yes." Albus says.

"Allison Krum." Albus informs me.

"You mean, the pretty daughter of Viktor Krum? The one with really pretty blonde curls and blue eyes? The Hufflepuff" I clarify.

Albus laughs. "No, the ugly daughter of someone we've never heard of who's in Ravenclaw. Yes, the pretty daughter of Viktor Krum, who's in Hufflepuff!" he says, still laughing.

"Wow. How did you, of all people, land a date with her? I still don't know why she even came to Hogwarts, and not Durmstrang like her mother and father did.

"Well, her parents moved to England soon after the Second Wizarding War. Then, Viktor and Hope sent her here, and not Durmstrang, because Viktor only attended there because he had to, and Hope didn't want her daughter that far away." Albus says. "As for how I got a date with her..." he gives a wry grin. "Even best friends have secrets."
