Cuz We Both Have A Jet Black Heart

1. chapter one

I woke up with a quick start from yet another nightmare. My name is Jade Brown. I am 17 and a half. For some reason, I am hated everywhere I go, and always have been.

It was only 4:03 but I got up anyway, I usually do. My mother and I just moved from a different place but still in Australlia. We bought a small house and I got a small portable house we brought along. It had a decent size room. To give you an image: My bed was in a corner with a desk next to it. The walls were painted mint blue color with a light gray color trimming. On the walls were a few calendars and instruments. Then a small living room, kitchen and bathroom. Nothing of interest there.

It was still a bit before 4:10 in the morning, so I just walked into the closet and threw on some clothes, just some basic clothes. Then I just did my makeup and hair. So many thoughts ran through my head as it got closer for me to leave. What if they all hate me? What if I have a panic attack? What if the social anxiety gets the best of me? These thoughts and many more ran through my brain.

It was now only 6:00, so I kept getting ready. I kept myself busy and a slow 60 minutes passed by. I locked up and headed to the bus stop. Oh yeah, did I mention today is my first day? Well, yup. It is after 2 months the year started.

I walked to the bus stop. There were 4 other people. Ugh, people. I stood about 10 feet away from them all. A boy with awesome, but messy green and purple hair came around the corner with nobody, looking at the ground. He wore a Nirvana shirt with black skinny jeans. Typical “emo,” I guess. He just kept looking at the ground. I noticed, how he also stood away from the group of people complaining how weird we look.

With a bit of nervousness with a mix of excitement, I walked up to him. As I got closer, I saw how tall he was. “‘Ey, I’m Jade. I like your shirt.” I said trying to sound confident, silently praying the nervousness didn't show in my voice.

He looked up and we made eye contact. His eyes an amazing shade of green. “Uh. hi. I’m Michael.” He said stumbling over a bit of the words, it was kinda cute. His accent was very thick and no doubt Australian. “Thank you, I like your shirt too.” He said motioning to my Blink-182 shirt.”

I calmed down a bit. “Thanks.” I smiled. We held eye contact again. “So, um how do you like this school?” Slowly, felt confident.

“It’s actually my first day. How about you?”

“It’s also my first day.”I told him. I was really relieved it’s also somebody else’s first day.

“Oh, really? That’s great.” He smiled. “Maybe we will have some classes together.” He said hopeful.

“Haha, yeah maybe.” The bus pulled up and we sat next to each other. “People tend to hate me.” I laughed

“Why would people hate you?” He wondered out loud. “You seem really cool, out going, funny and may I add, you're quite beautiful.”

I felt the blood quickly rise to my cheeks. “Thank you.” I answered shyly looking at my black combat boots.

“You're welcome.” He answered, then we sat in silence between us. Not awkward or comfortable.

The bus finally pulled up to the school. It was huge. “Do you also have to go to the counselor's’ office?” I asked breaking the silence.

“Yea, man his school is huge. I don't- thank you, have a nice day.” He said to the bus driver and I smiled and nodded at the bus driver. “I seriously don't know how we won't get lost.” He finished.

“Neither do I.” I laughed and so did he. We walked into the huge building and luckily the counselor's office was right in front. Michael held open the door and I walked in. “Thank you.” I said, he smiled and walked in.

“Anytime.” He winked.

We walked up to the desk and behind the computer was a smaller older lady woman. Early/ mid 80’s. “Good morning, how may I help you today?” She asked.

“Good morning. We both are new students here for our schedules.”

“Okay dear, what are your names?”

“Jade Brown.” I said, and it occurred to me, I don't know Michael’s last name.

“Michael Clifford.” He said. Michael Clifford… I have heard that name somewhere, I swear.

She then gave us both our schedules. “Anything else I can help you with?”

“Not that I could think of. Thank you so much, have a nice day!” I said.

“Thank you, have a nice day.” Michael repeated.

“Anytime. Thank you, you too.” We then left the office and stood nah the door.

“What's your schedule like?” He asked looking at his and a map.

I listed off the classes I have.

“That's awesome!! We have all the same classes other than Spanish and welding.” He said excited.

“I know.” I was truly excited to be in class with him, it is going to be great.

The final bell rang. Michael and I then went to the bus and got on. “I’m stoked we don't have much homework.” I told Michael.

“Well, I don’t mean to burst your bubble but we will have loads of homework tomorrow.” MIchael laughed.

“Geez, thanks for reminding me.” I laughed.

“Anytime love.” Michael laughed and put his backpack on his lap.

We talked for a bit more and the bus sadly pulled up to our stop. Darn it, too soon. We walked off with the group and the bus pulled away. “Today was a great day, I love talking to you.” Michael said and gave me a hug.

“Aw, thanks. I love talking to you too.” I admit, I was a bit sad when the hug ended.

He said looking at the ground.

“Of course.” We both smiled and parted ways.

Today, just wow. I continued my walk home just lost in my thoughts about Michael. I got home, did my little bit of homework and just hung out a bit. I was exhausted. I slipped on my sleeping shorts, shirt and then proceeded to crawl into bed. I plugged in my phone, turned on the T.V. and fell asleep.
