Younger and Way Less Lucky: If You Can't See Where it Keeps It's Brain

Book One in the Younger and Way Less Lucky series
Let's say, just for a minute, that Lily had given birth to a second child just before she was murdered. Let's say, just for a minute, that Harry had a younger sister, Rose.
Rose Lily Potter is the younger sister of Harry Potter. Born on June 30, 1981, she is almost exactly a year younger than Harry, and in the same year as Ginny Weasley and Luna Lovegood, and has Severus Snape as a godfather. The two children live with Sirius Black, with both Severus and Remus as frequent visitors. Rose's first year is much more traumatic than Harry's was, but, as the leader of the Silver Trio, she and her friends will make it work.

1. Chapter One

"Paddy," six-year-old Rose said, leaning over the back of Sirius's chair as he read the newspaper.

"Yes, Rose?" Sirius asked.

"Can we go to Ginny's house?" Rose asked. "It's her birthday!"

Sirius laughed lightly. "Do you have a gift for her?"

"Yes!" Rose exclaimed, leaping up and running to her room. When she came back down, she was holding a necklace. It was a beautiful necklace, with a single emerald hanging down from it.

"Oh, Rose, are you sure?" Sirius asked. The necklace had been Lily's, after all, the only thing from the house, other than a few pictures, their wedding rings, and James's seal ring, that had been salvageable.

"I thought you could make a copy!" Rose said proudly. "So we can both have one!"

Sirius smiled at her, and made the copy. "Let's go take it to her then, shall we? Why don't we ask Harry if he wants to come?"

Rose hurried from the room, shouting, "HARRY! PADDY SAYS COME DOWNSTAIRS!"

Harry emerged. "What?"

"We're going to Ginny's house!" Rose said, excited. "It's her birthday!"

"Cool." Harry said.

"Are you two ready?" Sirius asked, coming out of the kitchen.

"Yeah, ready!" Rose responded. "Are we going through the fireplace again?"

"That's the easiest way to get there, yes." Sirius nodded. "Come on, let's go."

Rose and Harry followed Sirius back down to the kitchen, to take the Floo to the Burrow.

"Ginny!" Rose squealed, stepping out of the fireplace.

"Rosie!" Ginny shrieked back, hugging her best, and only, friend.

"Happy birthday!" Rose yelled.

"Thank you!" Ginny shouted.

"I brought you a present!" Rose shrieked.

"What is it?" Ginny screeched.

"Why don't you open it and find out?" Rose roared.

"Why don't you two stop yelling?" Molly asked, hands over her ears, coming into the kitchen.

"Hello, Molly!" Rose chirped, hugging her.

"Hello, Rose, dear." Molly smiled at her.

"Ginny, open your present!" Rose handed her the soft, blue, velvety box that had been replicated with the necklace, although the color was changed.

Ginny carefully opened it.

"Wow!" she squealed. "It's so pretty!"

"It's a copy of the one my mum gave me!" Rose smiled. "They're like friendship necklaces!"

"Thank you so much!" Ginny hugged Rose again.

"That is very thoughtful of you, dear!" Molly exclaimed, beaming at the two girls. "Come, Ginny, and I'll help you put it on."

While Molly helped Ginny put her necklace on, Sirius finally came through the fireplace.

"Paddy!" Rose immediately started pulling on his arm. "Can you help me put my necklace on?"

"Did you bring it?" Sirius asked.

Rose reached into the pocket of her dress and pulled out a pale purple box, exactly like the blue one in everything but color, that contained a necklace identical to the one Molly was fastening around Ginny's neck.

Sirius helped Rose put on her necklace.

"Won't you three stay for lunch?" Molly asked Sirius.

"Yes, yes, yes!" Rose and Ginny began shrieking. "Please please please?"

"Yes, we would love to stay for lunch!" Sirius said, laughing at the girls's antics.

"Wonderful!" Molly beamed. "It's nothing fancy, I'm afraid, just Ginny's favorite sandwhiches and crisps, but-"

"Not a problem at all, Molly, we love sandwhiches, don't we, Rose?" Sirius said.

"I LOVE sandwiches!" Rose said, even though she hadn't been listening to Sirius.

"Lovely!" Molly said. "Now, where have those boys gotten off to? HARRY? RON?" she called, while bustling out of the kitchen.

Ginny and Rose looked at each other, and burst into giggles.
