World War One: Why Did it Happen?

by , Sunday July 9, 2017

World War One: arguably the darkest period in modern history, World War One has shaped the world we live in today. Battles raging in France killed over eleven million military personnel, while over seven million citizens died as a direct result of the war. We all know what happened, of course. But why?

I highly doubt anyone’s going to pay this much heed, but here we go anyway.

I joined this site almost five years ago. I was eleven years old, just out of primary school, and had no idea how to write a half decent story. This site helped me improve, and was incredibly welcoming, something I will forever be grateful for. Without that, I would never have kept it up.

But I’m sixteen now, and I only have a year left of school. In a lot of ways, I feel I’ve outgrown this site. Not necessarily as a writer, but as a person. There are some amazing memories and friends I’ve had here, but almost all of my memories are bittersweet now. I hate to say it, but in retrospect this site and my membership of it has been in some ways detrimental to my own mental health, and to my self esteem, at times when I really, really needed to keep those things up. I’m going to be keeping my account up here, because believe it or not there are some things I do look back on fondly, but there is also a lot that I really, really can’t.

I’m a relatively private person and I don’t like going into details about negative experiences, so I won’t say anymore on this subject, just that I think for the sake of my writing, and my mental health, leaving this site is for the best, at least for the foreseeable future. A lot has changed since I first joined, not just me but the community and the overall atmosphere of this site. Anyone who is still interested in my writing, you can follow my tumblr at lefoxwriting, and I’m more than happy to keep in touch with some of you brilliant people I’ve had the pleasure of conversing with, but I think it’s time to let go now, so that’s what I’m doing.

    See y’all around, I guess.

Hey, you'll certainly be missed, but you and your writing come first! I wish you all the best. ;)

    mumbled "On music"

    1 years agoReply
So I grew up to a mix of my parents’ tunes of Duran Duran, The Jam, and Queen, and artists such as Avril Lavigne, P!nk, and Marina and the Diamonds, and I’ve only just gotten into Avril and Pink, and uh... why did my parents let me listen to this? Like there’s so much swearing, seven year old me didn’t even realise those words at the time I think, and I’m like... yowzas. Anyway, if anyone actually wanted to be privy to my random and unwarranted thoughts about 2000s music, there you have it.

(Also I don’t care what anyone says, Queen and that are great and all, but the music of the noughties will always be the best music, and I will fight mostly anyone who says otherwise. I say mostly bc I still love Queen more than my own self, and musical and disney movie songs CANNOT be beaten.)

Also as another note bc I can’t keep my thoughts organised and me essentially just spilling all my shite into this mumble, anyone else doing Camp NaNo? Because I just wrote like 3k of a death scene and I NEED COMFORTING PLEASE. Also, making maps is really fun, even though there a million other things i should be doing rn (ie. studying for my Highers). Oh well.

In other words, a quick update.

I haven't been active in, what, at least a month or so? I do have good reason for this, rest assured. I may have mentioned this earlier, I'm not entirely sure, but either way, I have my Higher exams coming up (kinda the equivalent of A-Levels in England and Wales, I think) in May, though my first was Drama Practical on Tuesday. As such, I'm stressed to the max, and finding it really difficult to remain active on here. However, I am thankfully still writing whenever I can.

My two current projects are both high fantasy: 'Bound by Blood' and 'The Princess and the Pirate' (this title is also a work in progress, but for now it is practical so I am rolling with it).
'Bound by Blood' follows two twins, Calla and Rowan Laurel, who have been taken from their homeland of Saharm to Nara over the mountains, making the jarring transition from an advanced technological based society to a stagnant one focused on magic. The reason for them being there? The Naran people are rebelling against their dictator, and believe due to prophecy that Rowan is their best chance at success, and so they use him as a poster boy for the revolution, while President Augustus and his guards seek to kill him and his sister. Fun stuff, right?

'The Princess and the Pirate' is different, but also centers on themes of revolution. Ten years prior to the story taking place, the Eastern kingdom of Sassea sought to expand its empire to their neighbours Calor, slaughtering almost everyone at the Arren Palace, spare for two young children: Isla Moray, and Princess Ceana MacYver. Now grown up in very different circumstances, Princess Ceana is set to secure an alliance with Delos by marrying their prince, and Isla is beginning to make her fortunes carrying on her late adoptive father's piracy trade.
When Isla is tracked down by the Lairds of Calor, and asked to help them convince the princess return and take back her kingdom, she is all too happy to oblige, despite the obstacles which appear in her path.

I said this was a quick update, but it really wasn't. If anyone is actually reading this, then hi! I might be on more during the Easter holidays, but hopefully by June I will be free of exams and stress, and able to be far more active than I am right now. :)

I have 200 words left to write of my drama essay but it’s taking me FOREVER because I keep getting distracted by listening to Heathers, and I’m like... c’mon, me. Stop it. XD

I know, I think the only reason I've completed my first draft of English coursework is because it's literally about the importance of books, any other homework and I am the queen of procrastination though xD
